3 or 4 Days in Coron (December to February): The Best Island-Hopping Itinerary

Four days and three nights is a good first Coron trip: it gives you two full days of island hopping between arrival and departure. Three days and two nights usually leaves you one. If you want the lakes and lagoons, a separate Malcapuya day and a spare full day kept free for the weather, stay five days and four nights instead.

The short answer

Three, Four or Five Days in Coron, Day by Day

Start with Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon, add the white-sand outer islands on the next suitable day, and keep your departure day free of last-minute boat bookings.

These are calendar days, with arrival and departure counted. Only the days between them are full days for a boat tour, so a five-day, four-night stay is what we mean elsewhere on this site when we call three full days the best balance for most visitors.

⭐ The Classic First Day  ·  Seven Stops with Lunch

Coron Ultimate Tour: 7 Destinations with Lunch & Transfers

A shared boat from Coron Town with hotel pickup and lunch. Its seven stops include Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Barracuda Lake and the Skeleton Wreck, so one day covers the lakes, the lagoon and a shallow wreck you can snorkel. On a four-day trip, put it on day 2: if the operator has to move it, day 3 is still there.

Check the stop list for your date: companies use the names "Ultimate" and "Super Ultimate" for different routes. Coron's environmental fee is not in the price; the listing says you pay it on arrival at the airport or port.
Day 1

What to Do on Arrival Day in Coron

Get to town, look around, and leave the boats for tomorrow.

Most visitors fly into Francisco B. Reyes Airport on Busuanga and allow roughly 30 to 45 minutes for the transfer to Coron Town in normal conditions. The Coron one-way airport transfer (4.52 from 191 reviews on GetYourGuide) is one way to cover it; confirm the luggage allowance and whether pickup reaches your accommodation. Our Coron airport guide covers the other ways into town. Don't book a full boat tour for the day you land.

If you arrive early, spend the afternoon in Coron Town: a café, the climb up Mount Tapyas when the weather and your legs allow, or Maquinit Hot Springs when the roads are safe. Before the evening is out, confirm where tomorrow's tour meets. Some operators pick up in Coron Town itself, while private charters may meet at Lualhati Park.

Other experiences you might enjoy

For the boat days and the day in between: Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and Barracuda Lake on Coron Island, the Skeleton Wreck and the Lusong Gunboat, the outer-island beaches of Malcapuya, Banana Island, Bulog Dos and Ditaytayan, and on land around Coron Town, Mount Tapyas and Maquinit Hot Springs.

Day 2

The Essential First Full Day: Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon

The classic Coron Island circuit, shared or on a private boat.

The shared Ultimate Tour

Book a classic Ultimate Tour covering Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and a mix of the Skeleton Wreck, reefs and other stops. Kayangan Lake gives you a ridge viewpoint and a swim in an inland lake, Twin Lagoon is enclosed by limestone walls, and the Skeleton Wreck is shallow enough to snorkel. Companies define "Ultimate" and "Super Ultimate" differently, so check every stop on the listing you pick.

A private boat with your own stops

If you would like fewer stops and longer swims at the main ones, the custom private charter (4.93 from 807 reviews, $117 per group of up to two) lets you choose them. Choosing your own stops does not turn it into a half-day charter: it is still sold as a full day. Ask about timing, and note that the entrance fees are not included on the custom route.

Day 3

Choose a Second Day That Adds Something Different

Beaches or marine life, on a day the sea allows.

After the classic circuit, the biggest change of scene is the Island Escapade to Malcapuya, Banana Island and Bulog Dos (4.46 from 98 reviews, from $46). The day is about sand, swimming and island scenery, with no lakes. Other Malcapuya products visit Ditaytayan instead of Banana Island, among them the Beaches and Islands Boat Tour with Lunch (4.53 from 107 reviews), so read the stop lists before you choose.

If you love marine life, a Reefs & Wrecks day at the Lusong Gunboat and Lusong Coral Garden may give you more than a second lagoon tour. The shared Reef and Wreck tour covers both, but it has only 3.40 stars from 9 reviews, so read recent feedback before you book it.

The crossing to the outer islands can be long and is exposed to the Amihan wind. Keep it for a day the operator confirms as suitable.

Building in a weather buffer

A Genuine Spare Day Means an Extra Night

Three nights fill both full days; four nights leave one free.

With three nights you get two full sightseeing days, and both can be booked. Once arrival and departure are accounted for, there is no spare full day left. With four nights you can book two tours and keep a third full day free to move one of them if it is cancelled.

That still does not protect you from a storm lasting several days, and the tour needs free places once conditions improve. It does mean your trip no longer rests on a single departure, which often helps more than squeezing another attraction into a full itinerary. If a boat does stay in, our Coron tour cancellations guide explains what each tour offers as a refund or a new date.

December, January and February

What Changes in December, January and February?

January and February are much drier on average than December, though all three fall in the windy Amihan season.

Coron average rainfall, rainy days and average daily high, December to February
Month Average rainfall Rainy days Average daily high
December 90.3 mm 6 32.3°C
January 19.2 mm 3 32.5°C
February 22.9 mm 2 32.7°C

December brings festive holiday demand. January and February are drier on average but still fall in the Amihan season, when swell can affect exposed crossings. A few rainy days do not translate into a cancellation rate, so confirm close to departure that your tour is running and which sites it can reach. Our month guides to Coron in December and Coron in January go into each month in more detail.

Your base

Where to Stay and What to Compare

Stay close to where the tours leave from, and price the whole trip.

Coron Town and its outskirts are generally the easiest bases for repeated departures, restaurants and airport transfers. More isolated resorts suit a few days of relaxing, but you may need an extra boat or road transfer to join tours from town. Our guide to where to stay in Coron compares the areas. When you compare tours, add up the whole trip, fees and snorkelling gear included, instead of looking only at the headline prices.

Weather on the day

Rain Does Not Tell You Whether Boats Can Sail

Wind and swell matter more than showers.

Light rain on its own need not stop a tour. Amihan wind and swell, on the other hand, can make an exposed crossing unsuitable under a clear sky. What counts is the route, the boat, the captain's assessment and any maritime directions in force. Check the PAGASA marine gale warnings and confirm your booking with the operator. The Philippine Coast Guard's revised heavy-weather rules govern affected vessel movements, and a private charter cannot sail through an official suspension.

An operator cancelling is different from you cancelling because a weather app looks bad. Read the tour's operator-cancellation terms as well as its usual deadline for cancelling yourself.
