December is a good month for Coron. It is warm, drier than November and well suited to the Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon circuit when the sea allows. It is not a reliably calm month, though: the amihan wind can make the exposed crossings rough, and Christmas and New Year bring extra holiday travel. If your dates are flexible, we would pick early December.
All three months are warm. December sits between a wetter November and a much drier January. If your Christmas dates are fixed, confirm your tour, hotel and dinner early and put Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon near the start of your stay.
| Month | Average rainfall | Rainy days | Average daily high |
|---|---|---|---|
| November | 107.1 mm | 7 | 32.8 °C |
| December | 90.3 mm | 6 | 32.3 °C |
| January | 19.2 mm | 3 | 32.5 °C |
Averages for the Coron weather station, 1991–2020, from PAGASA's climate normals. They describe a typical month in Coron, not a daily forecast or the sea state, and they are not El Nido's figures.
If one day matters to your group, a private boat lets you secure that date and agree the stops before you go.
The boat, guide and crew are for your party alone, leaving Lualhati Park at 7:30 AM. You pick stops from the operator's list or take one of three fixed routes: Ultimate, Island Escapade or Reefs & Wrecks. Over Christmas, ask the operator to confirm the exact date and departure time before you pay, along with any holiday fees and the weather policy. The crew cooks lunch and serves it on a beach.
The second half brings the holidays and the extra travel that comes with them.
No monthly average can tell you whether the first or second half of December will be wetter or windier. What separates them is the holiday calendar and the extra bookings it brings. In 2026, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fall on a Thursday and Friday and run straight into a weekend:
All four are set by the national holiday proclamation for 2026. They tell you when Filipinos are off work, not whether a particular tour will sell out. If your dates are fixed, book the room and the departure you want early. Then ask the operator whether it actually sails on 24, 25 or 31 December, because a listing that shows dates all year round does not confirm a holiday departure.
December days out from Coron Town: Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and Barracuda Lake on Coron Island, the shallow Skeleton Wreck, the white-sand beaches of Malcapuya, Banana Island and Bulog Dos, and on a day off the water, the climb up Mount Tapyas or an evening soak at Maquinit Hot Springs.
A drier month, with a wind that the rainfall figures do not show.
Coron averages 90.3 mm of rainfall in December, spread over about six rainy days. Coron in January is much drier, at 19.2 mm over three days. Both months fall in the drier part of the year, unlike July or October.
Rainfall totals cannot tell you whether the approach to Twin Lagoon or the longer crossing to Malcapuya will be calm. For that, check the marine conditions for your route, not the sunny icon in a general weather app.
Pack a light windproof layer for the boat ride back after swimming, along with a dry bag, sun protection and a spare shirt, even in the dry season.
Coron's limestone lakes and lagoons first, the long beach run once you have them.
The shared Coron Ultimate Tour (4.85 from 1,517 reviews, from $42 per person) is the straightforward first-time choice. Its itinerary lists Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Barracuda Lake and the Skeleton Wreck, plus reef and beach stops. Check what the price covers for environmental fees and equipment rental.
If you want to set the pace and the order of stops yourself, compare the private Coron boat (4.93 from 807 reviews, $117 per group of up to two). On its pick-your-own option the entrance fees are paid separately.
Malcapuya, Banana Island and Bulog Dos are excellent for sand and swimming, but getting there means a much longer, more exposed crossing. Give the Malcapuya, Banana Island and Bulog Dos tour (4.46 from 98 reviews, $46 per person) its own day once the lakes and lagoons are done. Our beaches guide compares every stop.
A year-round listing is not a confirmed holiday departure.
Tours may run on Christmas Day, but a product listing does not confirm a 25 December departure. Ask the operator for the exact date and departure time, whether you will reach the advertised sites, any holiday fees and the weather policy.
For Christmas dinner, ask your hotel or restaurant for a confirmed menu, the reservation terms and the opening hours. Do not assume every independent business keeps normal hours on a national holiday.
On Christmas Eve you may come across Filipino holiday traditions and family celebrations; enjoy the atmosphere respectfully. If you hear about a concert or fireworks, check that it is announced for the year you travel.
Two boat days with a free day behind them.
Day 1: arrive, explore Coron Town and, if you have the energy, climb Mount Tapyas. Day 2: the classic Ultimate Tour. Day 3: Malcapuya or a dedicated snorkelling day when the sea allows. Day 4: weather buffer, sightseeing in town and Maquinit Hot Springs when it is safe. Day 5: departure. Over Christmas, move the days around the departures your operators have confirmed and keep one day simply for celebrating.
With two nights you usually get one full boat day, so make it the lakes and lagoons. A four-day, three-night trip fits two tours, but then nothing is left over as a weather buffer.
Light rain alone need not stop a tour, while amihan wind and swell can keep boats in under a clear sky, and a private charter cannot sail through an official suspension. Check the PAGASA gale warnings and confirm your own booking with the operator. Our guide to when Coron tours are cancelled covers who decides, what you get back and how to check on the morning.

Tour ratings and review counts were checked on GetYourGuide in October 2026; prices are the figures published elsewhere on this site. A listing is not proof that a boat will sail on your date, and prices, stop lists, fees, availability and policies change.
The month before, the whole year, and what happens when the boats stay in.
Put Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon on your first boat day, keep Malcapuya for the second, and leave a free day behind both. Over Christmas, get the operator to confirm the date before you pay.
Tours book via GetYourGuide. The private boat and the Ultimate Tour both have free cancellation up to 24 hours before; other listings set their own terms, so check them before you pay. This site earns a commission when you book — see our affiliate disclosure.
