Coron in November: Is It a Good Time for Island Hopping?

November is a good month for Coron, and the second half of it is the better bet. Average rainfall falls by more than half from October, which makes the lakes, lagoons, snorkelling stops and outer beaches easier to plan. It is still a changeover month, though: tropical storms remain possible and the northeast monsoon starts to bring wind, so do not count on calm water.

The short answer

Is November a Good Time to Visit Coron?

Yes, especially towards the end of the month. For a first visit, put the classic Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon circuit first, keep a flexible day if you can, and make Malcapuya your second boat trip. A private boat lets you choose the stops, but it cannot sail past a safety restriction.

Coron Ultimate Tour: 7 Destinations with Lunch & Transfers

A shared boat with seven stops, including Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Barracuda Lake and Skeleton Wreck, plus reef and beach time. It is the widest single-day mix of Coron's highlights you can book, and with 1,517 reviews it has the longest track record of any Coron tour on this site. The operator can change the order of stops when conditions require it, so read the day as a list of places, not a fixed timetable.

Check what the price leaves out: pickup, lunch and the site entrance fees are included, apart from Coron's environmental fee, which the listing says you pay on arrival at the airport or port. Ask whether mask, snorkel and fins are included or rented, and read the listing's cancellation terms for both you and the operator before you pay.
Two halves of one month

Early or Late November: What Is the Real Difference?

Late November is our seasonal preference. It is not a promise of better weather on any single day.

The second half of the month sits further along the usual change from the wet season to the dry one. An individual week can still be beautifully sunny or unexpectedly unsettled, whichever half you pick. If you are travelling in early November, be especially careful not to plan the trip around one fixed boat day.

The PAGASA climate normals give November 107.1 mm of rain across seven rainy days, against October's 241.2 mm across fourteen. December averages 90.3 mm across six. On typical rainfall, then, November is much closer to December than to October. A rainy day in those figures means at least 1 mm of rain, not rain all day. The averages cannot give you a defensible chance of your tour being cancelled.

The wind changes through the month too. The northeast monsoon, known locally as amihan, usually sets in around the end of October; in 2025 the national weather service declared it on 27 October. It brings drier air and, with it, wind and swell on the more exposed crossings. November also deserves respect for storms: Typhoon Haiyan made its final Philippine landfall on Busuanga on 8 November 2013. Our typhoon and gale-warning section explains how that risk plays out for a boat day, and our guide to which Coron tours are most sheltered in amihan covers the wind season route by route.

Other experiences you might enjoy

More ways to spend a November week in Coron: the climb to Kayangan Lake, the swim through Twin Lagoon, the clear water of Barracuda Lake, snorkelling over Skeleton Wreck and the WWII wrecks of Coron Bay, the white sand of Malcapuya, Banana Island, Bulog Dos and the Ditaytayan sandbar, and two things to do on a day the boats stay in: the sunset walk up Mount Tapyas and an evening soak at Maquinit Hot Springs.

If you only have one boat day

Which Island-Hopping Route Comes First in November?

Make your first day Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and a snorkelling stop. Everything else is a second day.

Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and a reef or wreck

At Kayangan you climb a limestone ridge to the viewpoint, then walk down to the lake for a swim. Twin Lagoon is a completely different swim, inside a basin closed in by limestone walls. Skeleton Wreck or a coral garden adds something underwater, and Barracuda Lake is a bonus when the tour you book includes it. Our lakes and lagoons guide compares the three in detail.

Shared: the Coron Ultimate Tour

The shared Coron Ultimate Tour (4.85 from 1,517 reviews, from $42 per person) covers most of these highlights in one day. Before booking, check which fees and which equipment are excluded.

Private: a boat you route yourself

A customisable private boat (4.93 from 807 reviews, from $117 per group of up to two) suits you if you want fewer stops, an earlier start or a slower lunch. On its pick-your-own option the entrance fees are paid in cash on the day: Kayangan ₱300, Barracuda ₱250 and Twin Lagoon ₱200. Choosing fewer stops does not automatically make it a half-day trip, so agree that with the operator in advance. Our private boat review covers how the stop list works.

The beach day

Should You Visit Malcapuya in November?

Yes, as a second boat day. It is a longer, more open trip than the lakes-and-lagoons circuit.

Malcapuya, Banana Island and Bulog Dos make a lovely beach day, but the run out to the outer islands includes much longer stretches of open water. When conditions are good, the white sand and the swimming repay the journey. When the wind or swell is wrong, the captain may change the plan or cancel it.

Compare the Malcapuya, Banana Island and Bulog Dos tour (4.46 from 98 reviews, $46 per person) with the Malcapuya and Ditaytayan beaches tour (4.53 from 107 reviews). Ditaytayan is the one for sandbar photographs; Banana Island adds one more beach stop. Two tours both sold as an "Island Escapade" do not necessarily follow the same route, so compare the stop lists. Our Coron beaches guide ranks every outer-island stop.

Plan for a cancelled day

A November Itinerary That Survives a Weather Change

Put your main tour early in the stay and keep the last day clear of anything that depends on the sea.

Three nights, four calendar days

Day 1: arrive and look around Coron Town. Day 2: the Ultimate Tour. Day 3: Malcapuya, or the rescheduled Ultimate Tour if Day 2 was cancelled. Day 4: leave.

Four nights, five days

The same two tours, plus one full day kept free for a rescheduled boat.

Only two nights

You usually get just one full sightseeing day, so make it the lakes and lagoons.

Around your flights and ferries

Avoid booking an important ferry or flight right after an exposed boat trip. A cancelled sailing does not cancel your hotel or a separately booked transfer.

If the boats stay in

When tours cannot run but it is safe on land, Mount Tapyas, Coron Town and Maquinit Hot Springs are good alternatives. In severe weather, stay somewhere safe.

In the order we would do it

What to Book Before Leaving Home

First your bed and your transfer from Busuanga Airport into Coron Town, then the one boat day you would least want to miss.

1. Accommodation and the airport transfer Book where you will sleep and how you get from Busuanga Airport into Coron Town first. Our Coron airport guide covers the transfer and our where to stay guide covers the areas.
2. The one experience you would hate to miss Before you pay, confirm the actual stops, the site entrance fees, the environmental fee, the hotel pickup zone, mask and fins rental, the price for your whole group, and what happens if the operator cancels.
3. Don't cancel on a forecast icon Do not cancel a tour yourself just because a general weather forecast shows rain. Wait for the operator, who decides on the day.

Rain does not tell you whether boats can sail

Light rain alone need not stop a tour. On the other hand, amihan wind and swell can make an exposed crossing unsuitable under a clear sky. What matters is the route, the boat, the captain's judgement and any maritime orders in force. Check the PAGASA gale warnings and confirm your own booking with the operator. The Philippine Coast Guard's revised heavy-weather rules govern when vessels may move, and a private charter cannot override an official suspension.

An operator cancelling is not the same as a guest cancelling because a weather app looks bad. Read the operator-cancellation terms of the tour you choose as well as its standard customer-cancellation deadline.
